1920
The Club is formed by old boys of Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar
School. Was in existence but then disbanded.
1925
Old Blackburnians A.F.C. was reformed by Ken Forbes and Frank
Astley and played it’s first match on 19 September 1925 against
St. Philips and won 6-2.
Captain was Tommy Whewell who was also a Cambridge Blue, captain
of Corinthians and the England amateur side.
1926-1927
Played in the Blackburn Combination. 1929-1930
Founder members of Lancashire Amateur League Northern Section.
1929-1939
Played in Easter tours of the Isle of Man playing two matches on
Good Friday; two matches on Easter Saturday and two matches on
Easter Monday. 1931
Inaugural Boxing Day game played against Queen Elizabeth’s
Grammar School. 1939-1945
No games during war years. 1946
Purchased memorial grounds for £1400. (see

1946-1947
Defeated Blackburn Technical College 2-0 at Ewood Park in a
replay to gain Lancashire Amateur Cup. A total of 16,000
spectators watched the two games.
The share of gate money from the games was £191.
1947-1948
First ‘Sods Opera’ outing to Blackpool. 1949
Purchased R.A.F. hut for £20 for own pavilion.
1950-1951
Official opening of the memorial ground and pavilion by Lord
Clitheroe (Boxing Day 1950). back to top |
